Vicomtech holds 2,225 m2 along two buildings, combining both, state-of-the art laboratories with research facilities.

Interactive Digital TV Laboratory

This laboratory brings the centre to the European technology avant-garde position in the Digital TV framework over domains such as ultra-high definition, HBR or HDR, stereoscopy, web based interaction, etc. From these facilities several internationally renowned projects have been developed, which follow not only the research lines in this domain, but also the demand from different sectors aiming at applying and benefiting from these cutting-edge technologies.

The laboratory is equipped with specific state-of-the-art equipment, totally compatible with AV transmission standards (DVB-T, DVB-C, DVB-S, DVB-H, MPEG) and interactive services (DVB-MHP, HTML), and it is financed by the Ministry of Education and Science (Directorate General for Research).

Digital medicine laboratories

Vicomtech has two digital medicine laboratories and it has acquired latest-generation display and interaction devices, financed by a state subsidy.

  • Extended Digital Hospital. These facilities are equipped for research into new medical image display techniques, multimodal fusion, more natural, intuitive interaction paradigms for surgical scenarios, intraoperative navigation, rapid prototyping, etc.and are a real validation environment for developments geared to health professionals.

    Specifically, the four clinical stages - Diagnosis, Preoperative, Intraoperative and Postoperative - are covered.

  • It is equipped with advanced intraoperative display, interaction and navigation equipment:high resolution MicroCT, ultrasound, fluorescence microscope, intraoperative microscope, rigid and flexible endoscopes, simulation dummy, haptic interaction devices, 3D scanners, 3D printer (rapid prototyping), PACS, high-performance distributed computing servers, high-performance graphic computing servers, display servers, workstations, high dynamic range monitors, etc.

  • Digital care home. The research covers different types of advanced interaction technologies for home health management with the necessary remote supervision from medical staff.This enables earlier detection of any health complications, preventing pathological situations.

    The laboratory has two areas:

    • Natural interaction technologies area: for research into new interaction technologies aiding interaction with remote health systems.
    • Tele-rehabilitation and eHealth area: for research into technologies applied to improving remote rehab in the patients’ own homes.
