Vicomtech participates in the SMARTEYE project for the sustainable transformation of industry

05.03.2024

Thanks to its experience in the development of advanced technologies in vision and artificial intelligence, Vicomtech participates in the SMARTEYE project, an ambitious initiative aimed at promoting efficiency and sustainability in the manufacturing industry.

This project, framed within the European Green Deal Industrial Plan of the European Commission and funded by the Basque Government under the Elkartek 2023 call, in line with the strategic priority RIS 3 - PCTI 2030 to promote an Intelligent and Sustainable Industry, aims primarily at resource and raw material optimization, as well as digitalization of industrial processes to ensure competitiveness and climate neutrality.

Vicomtech participates in SMARTEYE, bringing its knowledge of the development and implementation of innovative technologies for online and real-time characterization of manufacturing processes.

Specifically, Vicomtech focuses on exploring new online detection technologies, high-precision characterization, innovation in dense photonic systems, and the integration of adaptable photonic sensors for dynamic conditions. These technologies, applied in key sectors such as manufacturing, food, and glass industry, promise to revolutionize the way industrial processes are carried out, ensuring higher quality and efficiency.

Furthermore, Vicomtech plays a key role in the integration and validation of these disruptive technologies, ensuring their effectiveness and viability through proof-of-concept testing in real environments. This rigorous and results-oriented approach ensures that the developed solutions are capable of meeting the specific needs of different industrial sectors, thus contributing to technological advancement and sustainable development.

On the other hand, Deep Learning, Synthetic Image Generation, Real-Time Adaptation and Correction Technologies, and Dense Photonic Sensors are other technologies being researched and developed in this project.

The project consortium is formed by Tecnalia Research & Innovation Foundation (project leader), Vicomtech Foundation - Center for Visual Interaction and Communication Technologies, Tekniker Foundation, BC Materials – Basque Center for Materials, Applications and Nanostructures, Mondragon Goi Eskola Politeknikoa S.Coop, and UPV/EHU (Department of Analytical Chemistry). Collaboration among the different agents in the territory is essential to continue developing cutting-edge technologies that can be transferred to companies to improve their competitiveness.
