The transformation of the energy model has become closely linked to the ability to build systems that are more flexible, more efficient, and better prepared to respond to an increasingly complex and dynamic environment.
In this context, and following the publication by the CDTI of the guidelines for the “Misiones 2026” programme, an initiative aimed at supporting business-led R&D projects addressing challenges related to the development of a stable, flexible, and resilient energy system, Vicomtech is strengthening its work in the field of Digital Energy through the development of advanced technologies based on Artificial Intelligence, data analytics, and applied simulation.
The growing integration of renewable energy sources, the electrification of industry, and the emergence of new distributed generation models are profoundly transforming the way energy is produced, managed, and consumed. This evolution requires tools capable of anticipating behaviours, optimising resources, and ensuring the stability of increasingly interconnected infrastructures.
Applied technology to address emerging energy challenges
Vicomtech’s activity in this field focuses on transferring advanced technological capabilities to real challenges within the energy sector. These include demand and renewable generation forecasting tools based on advanced forecasting models, the development of digital twins and multiphysics simulations to analyse the behaviour of complex infrastructures, as well as intelligent algorithms designed for predictive maintenance and early anomaly detection.
The center is also working on advanced systems for energy storage optimisation and on technologies aimed at improving grid resilience, incorporating models capable of identifying, characterising, and mitigating failure modes in highly demanding environments.
These capabilities are complemented by the integration of Generative Artificial Intelligence and intelligent assistants based on language models, designed to facilitate interaction with complex systems and improve real-time decision-making.
Capabilities delivering impact in real-world environments
Vicomtech’s experience in applied research projects has enabled these technologies to be successfully transferred to real operational environments, achieving highly positive results in areas related to energy efficiency and the intelligent operation of infrastructures.
Among these developments are energy forecasting models capable of achieving error margins close to 4% in pre-operational scenarios, intelligent systems that have optimised critical parameters in industrial environments generating significant operational savings, and advanced simulation models capable of accelerating optimisation processes thousands of times compared to traditional methodologies.
Beyond technological development itself, the goal is to contribute to the creation of more robust, sustainable, and future-ready energy systems capable of addressing the challenges of the coming years.
An ecosystem open to collaboration
In line with the objectives of Misiones 2026, Vicomtech remains committed to research closely connected to industry needs and is open to exploring collaborations with leading organisations seeking to integrate cutting-edge technologies into their R&D projects, thus contributing to strategic autonomy and the transition towards a low-emission energy model.
