Digital Platforms & Data Spaces
Vicomtech approaches applied Artificial Intelligence research from a comprehensive perspective, centred on data and on a systemic view of solutions tailored to specific application sectors (industry, health, transport, security…). We understand that the success of Artificial Intelligence lies in not seeing it as an isolated technology, but in recognising that it requires Digital Platforms and Data Spaces as key enablers for integration within companies, industries and institutions across different sectors. We are active members of European initiatives such as IDSA –International Data Spaces Association–, Gaia-X, IDTA –Industrial Digital Twin Association– and CATENA-X, which provide us with both an integrated perspective and real transfer capabilities.
Artificial Intelligence in Digital Platforms and Data Spaces
At a first level, aspects such as digitalisation, standardisation, integration, adaptability and modularity are the most relevant in Digital Platforms and Data Spaces and other related concepts such as Data Lakes or Data Warehouses. However, the greatest potential for advanced applications emerges when Artificial Intelligence is incorporated to develop applied AI systems built on these data assets and platforms.
Data Spaces
Data Spaces are collaborative digital environments that provide both technological and digital solutions as well as rules for usage and exploitation, enabling their members to share and use data. This data supports, for example, the delivery of services in a cybersecure, reliable manner aligned with industrial and/or legal standards and regulations, creating scenarios for innovation and for economic and social impact.
The sector and use cases strongly determine the design and development of these Data Spaces: at Vicomtech we work locally and internationally on Data Spaces for industry, transport, health, agriculture and security, among others.
Vicomtech also works with complementary technologies and concepts such as data lake, data warehouse, data mesh and data fabric, depending on the needs of our clients and collaborators.
Digital Platforms
Digital Platforms have two complementary perspectives: they serve as a foundation to structure solutions and integrated IT systems at the digital level, but also as a natural enabler of an interface with the physical world.
Digital Platforms make it possible to capture information from the physical environment, understand it, simulate it and act upon it.Standardisation, integration, adaptability and modularity are fundamental elements in our Digital Platform approach.
