The automotive and mobility sector is undergoing an unprecedented transformation, driven by vehicle electrification, automation, and the integration of digital technologies. This shift is redefining business models, industrial processes, and requires new R&D capabilities. Advanced technologies such as Software Defined Vehicles, AI applied to mobility, CCAM systems, V2X communications, and autonomous driving demand test environments beyond conventional labs.
Validating these solutions requires real-world infrastructures that replicate traffic scenarios and variable conditions. Dedicated platforms are essential to develop, test, and validate smart, safe, and sustainable mobility technologies. These should include simulated urban infrastructure, connected roads, critical maneuver test tracks, intelligent communication networks, and advanced sensor systems.
Creating a proving ground for connected and autonomous vehicles is a strategic component of the R&D ecosystem. These facilities support experimentation in complex scenarios and increase the reliability and public acceptance of new technologies. They also promote collaboration among industry, research centers, universities, and public administrations.
This vision aligns with key European strategies like the Automotive Action Plan and the EU Strategic Compass, and is embodied in the smart mobility hub MUBIL in the Basque Country. Within this framework, Vicomtech proposes an advanced outdoor scientific infrastructure integrated into its new headquarters at MUBIL. With a team of over 80 mobility and safety experts, Vicomtech will strengthen its role as a leading developer of innovative mobility technologies.
