Additive manufacturing oriented to the development of intelligent plastic pieces

FANTASIA

Duration:

01.03.2017 - 31.12.2018

The main objective of this project is to investigate and study the integration of intelligence into parts manufactured using additive manufacturing, combining polymeric and conductive materials. Achieving this objective involves obtaining complementary and essential goals for the project's success.

Research into the development of characterization and simulation algorithms for printed parts in order to optimize designs based on key parameters: material type, conductive trace thickness, trace path, and aging time.

Research into vision and rendering technologies to perform quality control on printed parts, all integrated into an embedded electronics system within an HMI platform.

Technological Objectives

- Master the technology for integrating electronic components into parts manufactured using additive manufacturing.

- Characterize the materials and processes and develop a simulator to estimate the resistance values of the conductive traces.

- Develop a vision-based quality control system that can be embedded in an electronic platform with a Cortex A8 core.

- Gain knowledge of new materials with different properties to address new challenges and objectives.

- Acquire a deeper understanding of the manufacturing process and provide better support for quality inspection and root cause analysis using volumetric visualization techniques.
