Bio-Inspired Surfaces for Machine Elements II

The BISUM II project aims to develop innovative strategies to improve energy efficiency and extend the service life of machine components through the use of functional surfaces inspired by nature (see Fig. 1). In its predecessor, the BISUM project succeeded in reducing friction by up to 15%, resulting in lower energy consumption. Consequently, the main purpose of BISUM II is to ensure the durability of these bio-inspired surfaces and their resistance to premature damage, thus contributing to extending the service life of machine elements.
