Integration of Life Cycle Assessment methodologies for Safe and Sustainable by Design

The main goal of iLCA4SSbD is to address the aforementioned challenges by developing a user-friendly Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered integrated Life Cycle Assessment (iLCA) digital platform that incorporates tools and datasets for sustainability and safety assessment.

This platform will seamlessly support cost-effective SSbD analyses and decision-making for chemicals and materials at all stages of product development. Its purpose is to foster acceptance and accelerate the industrial uptake of LCA methods and data for their adoption and implementation at industrial scale.

The iLCA will be established as a three-tier approach fully aligned with the European Commission’s SSbD framework, where each tier corresponds to an integrated methodology (supported by a toolbox) for assessing safety, environmental, social, and economic impacts at different stages of the innovation process, requiring varying levels of data and expertise.
