Smart Photonics: New Photodetectors, Advanced Sensors and Foundational Models for Industry
PRISMA2
Duration:
01.04.2026 - 31.12.2027
The overall objective of PRISMA2 is to strengthen the Basque Country’s scientific and technological capabilities in advanced photonic sensing and the development of foundational photonic AI,
enabling smart sensors for the aerospace, metallurgy, advanced manufacturing, resource recovery and bio-health sectors. The following specific objectives are proposed:
1. Printable photodetectors: To investigate the development of printable and flexible sensors manufactured using advanced printing technologies.
2. Multimodal photonic sensors: To combine Raman, LIBS, HSI, 3D and X-ray technologies with low-cost versions for industry and healthcare.
3. Foundational Photonic Models: to create the first foundational models for spectroscopy and industrial defectology (Raman, LIBS, HSI, X-ray).
4. Trustworthy Photonic AI: to develop robust, explainable and physically informed AI with minimal need for annotated data.
5. Consolidation of the research community: to strengthen capabilities in sensor technology, chemometrics and AI, and industry-academia collaboration.
6. Industrial transfer: create distinctive capabilities for Basque companies and accelerate the market launch of smart sensors.
7. Scientific and technological dissemination: increase scientific output, patents and knowledge transfer.
