Vicomtech receives a recognition from the European Commission for advanced Human Resources Management in Research, HR Excellence in Research

11.12.2017

Vicomtech has recently achieved recognition from the European Commission with the HR Excellence in Research award, which certifies its commitment to open, transparent, and merit-based recruitment of researchers (OTM-R: Open, Transparent, and Merit-based Recruitment of Researchers). In a demanding environment dominated by advanced management systems capable of measuring results in real time, the human resources aspect of research cannot be left behind. Research organizations also require management methods capable of quantifying and evaluating the outcomes of the efforts invested in each of their projects and activities. This can only be achieved by placing the researcher at the center of the system.

Since its inception, Vicomtech has focused on the continuous improvement of its processes, and it has recently taken a further step by successfully implementing the European Code of Conduct and the People CMM Matrix developed by the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University, bringing people management in research closer to international excellence. The European Commission has recognized this commitment by awarding Vicomtech the HR Excellence in Research distinction.

An excellent management approach undoubtedly involves being an international benchmark. In recent years, Vicomtech has developed a system to quantify and manage the organization’s capacity in relation to the value of its Intellectual Capital, based on the knowledge of its researchers and intangible assets (such as software libraries). To this end, Vicomtech has developed a new methodology for calculating its Intellectual Capital, based on cutting-edge international methodologies.

Vicomtech works to align the contributions of each individual with the corporate strategy while providing opportunities for personal and professional development. This model allows the organization to identify and enhance the capabilities of each researcher, guiding them through training and performance results along the career path best suited to their profile. The development of individual skills and competencies is a key factor in generating added value in research.

This system is complemented by Vicomtech’s knowledge management strategy and, in turn, by its Technological Strategy, based on the creation and monitoring of its Technology Roadmap, which serves as a strategic reference tool and guides the center toward achieving its strategic objectives. All of this is done without losing sight of the center’s mission: to respond to the needs of applied research, development, and innovation in information technologies for companies and institutions, addressing new challenges and improving competitiveness in a global market.

Both methods have been the subject of two top-tier international scientific publications (Q1 category), positioning Vicomtech among the global leaders in the sector.

Vicomtech is one of the few centers to simultaneously hold the internationally recognized ISO 9001:2015 and UNE 166002:2014 certifications, further establishing it as a benchmark for research quality. Vicomtech achieved the highest accreditation in R&D&I management and was also the first to update the AENOR R&D&I Management System certificate to the new version of UNE 166002, published in 2014. This recognition reaffirms Vicomtech’s excellence in R&D&I and positions it at the forefront of innovation management.
