Companies and Administrations present use cases of Artificial Intelligence and Language Technologies developed by Vicomtech

On Wednesday, November 17, the conference Artificial Intelligence and Language Technologies: Solutions to improve interaction, efficiency and automation took place in Bilbao. The event featured presentations by representatives of various companies and administrations that exposed the impact of these technologies on their products and processes. Vicomtech researchers complemented these examples by exposing the technologies that are developed in the center and that are based on the application of Artificial Intelligence.

The audience, formed mainly by managers, technical, innovation or service managers from both companies and administrations of the environment, had the opportunity to know first-hand the possibilities offered by these technologies and the possibilities of implementation in their own processes and products.

The event was opened by Xabier Otxandiano, Bilbao's Councilor for Economic Development, Trade and Employment and the program continued with the presentation of Julián Flórez, General Director of Vicomtech, who made a presentation of the Center and the technologies that are developed in it. Next, he gave way to Arantza Del Pozo, Director of the Department of Speech and Natural Language Technologies, who presented the technological lines applied to different sectors. Then, the central part of the event began with real cases of application in companies and administrations.

The event was attended by Vicomtech researchers Thierry Etchegoyhen, Aitor Álvarez, Manex Serras and Montse Cuadros, who together with the invited external speakers made practical presentations of the developed technologies applied to real market solutions.

Oscar Guadilla, Head of Innovation and Consulting of the Basque Government Information Technology Society (EJIE) explained the case of Itzuli Machine Translation, the neural translator based on Artificial Intelligence made available to the public and conveyed the impact of this service in teh society. Larraitz Eguren, Technical Coordinator of content processes at EITB explained to the audience the example of Automatic Bilingual Subtitling. Blanca Romero, Deputy Director of Natural Vox, presented the voice based biometrics and antispoofing solution implemented in the company.

The event program continued with three other cases that also aroused public interest, such as the new integrated system in the residences of Caser Residencial, which consists of the spoken registration of information through conversational assistants, presented by Iñaki Tellería URTMS Coordinator in Caser Betharram Residential. This gave way to the BBVA AI Factory use case presented by María Hernández and Jesús María Martín, regarding the application of transfer learning in natural language models used for customer service. The block of examples ended with the exhibition on Deepfake and Voice Cloning in which the well-known announcer, presenter and producer Toni Garrido detailed how the generation of Franco's voice was proposed for the XREY podcast and the way the spectacular result was achieved with Vicomtech technology.

The conference ended with a question session and a very entertaining round table moderated by Toni Garrido himself.

The conference organised with the support of Bilbao Ekintza is the first of a series of 7 events related to the application of Artificial Intelligence solutions aimed at companies from different sectors, to bring Vicomtech's capabilities closer to companies in the area and to learn about their technology and digitization needs.
