Vicomtech drives Basque biotechnology at BIOSPAIN 2025 with AI-based digital solutions for the Pharmaceutical & Biotech sector

Vicomtech actively took part in BIOSPAIN 2025, the leading international meeting of the biotechnology sector in Spain, which this year brought together hundreds of companies, technology centers, institutions, and startups from the biotech and pharma fields in Barcelona. Vicomtech attends BIOSPAIN with the aim of promoting innovation in life sciences through Artificial Intelligence, facilitating “the shortest path from the laboratory to the patient.” At Vicomtech, we focus our efforts on accelerating processes, optimizing results, and improving decision-making across the entire healthcare value chain.

From our stand, we showcased our commitment to applying Artificial Intelligence to accelerate and optimize the entire drug development process. In addition, Iván Macía, Director of Digital Health and Technologies at Vicomtech, participated in the roundtable “Biotech Made in Euskadi,” alongside representatives of the sector in Euskadi—both public and private—highlighting the strength of the Basque biotechnology ecosystem and opportunities for collaboration between science, technology, and industry. During his intervention, Macía emphasized how AI and advanced data analysis can transform the drug life cycle: from identifying new therapeutic targets and designing molecules to predicting efficacy and safety, and optimizing clinical trials.

Vicomtech’s technologies cover the entire life cycle of pharmaceutical and biotechnological products, from drug discovery to digital therapies and clinical support. In the pharmaceutical sector, we work to optimize formulations, accelerate trials, automate documentation, create virtual cohorts and in silico trials, and improve pharmacovigilance and real-world evidence generation. In biotechnology, we focus on increasing production efficiency, facilitating industrial scale-up, and optimizing bioprocesses and formulations through intelligent experimental design.

Furthermore, in a changing regulatory environment, we are the first national technology center to obtain ISO-13485 certification, addressing the specificity of medical devices with Artificial Intelligence and establishing criteria for their development and incremental validation in clinical settings.

Participation in BIOSPAIN 2025 reinforces Vicomtech’s commitment to the development of Basque biotechnology, a sector that is growing strongly thanks to collaboration between technology centers, pharmaceutical companies, emerging biotechs, and research institutes. This ecosystem consolidates Euskadi as a European benchmark in health innovation. It is worth noting that the next edition of BIOSPAIN will be held in Bilbao from September 29 to October 1, 2026, further strengthening the region’s presence in the international biotechnology scene.
