Mondragón Sistemas (MSI) and Vicomtech Foundation have been selected in the tender launched by Gipuzkoako Urak S.A.U. (GUK) , thus consolidating an alliance aimed at innovating in water management in the territory. The awarded project is focused on the "Contracting of the Service for Programming Control Algorithms using Machine Learning, Digitization of Information, and Transmission of Data to the Basque Water Agency". The fundamental purpose is to integrate artificial intelligence tools into GUK's systems and processes, thereby contributing to its digitalization process.
This project is the result of the collaboration between Vicomtech and MSI Grupo in the environmental sector, pooling resources, capabilities, and experience to optimize processes in the water field and move towards a more efficient and sustainable water management.
Vicomtech will contribute its knowledge in key areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning. It will be responsible for the development of the required algorithms and predictive models. Vicomtech's technological solutions will be implemented in two specific Wastewater Treatment Plants (EDAR): Mekolalde and Zuringoain. These developments focus on the creation of digital tools that allow a more efficient control of the water treatment operations:
- Intelligent Prediction: Development of predictive models capable of anticipating flow peaks arriving at the interceptor of the sanitation system in both EDARs.
- Plant Modeling: Creation of models capable of simulating the behavior of the Mekolalde and Zuringoain plants.
- Control Algorithms: Development of advanced control algorithms, based on Machine Learning, to manage and optimize the purification processes.
These works confirm Gipuzkoako Urak's progress towards a safer, optimized management model, adapted to the challenges of the energy and environmental transition.
MSI Grupo will lead the project by implementing its BerryMA platform with a modular architecture that will allow for more efficient and anticipatory water management.
- BerryMA Platform: MSI Grupo's own IIoT technology for capturing, analyzing, and visualizing data in real-time. It offers dashboards, automatic alarms, and operational reporting. Its modular design allows for flexible and adaptable management.
- Artificial Intelligence Models: Specific AI models will be implemented for each plant, with capabilities such as flow prediction to the interceptor or the simulation of the EDAR behavior. These models will be trained with real data from the plants.
- Multi-objective Control Algorithms: Implemented to globally optimize key aspects in the EDARs such as the flow to be treated, energy consumption, reagent dosage, and the stability of the biological process. A significant reduction in consumption is anticipated while maintaining regulatory compliance.
This award recognizes the collaboration between Mondragón Sistemas (MSI) and Vicomtech in their common goal of digitally transforming the water cycle. MSI consolidates its position as a reference in the design of global Digital Automation solutions that are intelligent, sustainable, and adapted to the real needs of the sector , while Vicomtech reaffirms its commitment to process optimization, safety, and environmental protection through the application of advanced Artificial Intelligence technologies. Together, both entities are driving a more efficient, safe, and sustainable management of Gipuzkoan waters , the result of their strategic alliance in the environmental sector.
