DECIDE: Improving natural disaster management with artificial intelligence and satellite data.

DECIDE

During a disaster, such as a forest fire, flood or landslide, emergency response teams must make critical decisions under extreme time pressure and using information from multiple sources. DECIDE brings this data together to provide a comprehensive overview of the situation and support a faster, more effective response.

The platform combines satellite data, artificial intelligence models specialised in geospatial analysis, and a conversational assistant that answers natural language queries and coordinates access to different information sources. Through an interactive dashboard, users can view alerts, access data from the EU's Copernicus Emergency Management Service (EMS) and combine satellite imagery with risk indicators and traffic incidents. It also supports the calculation of safe routes to reach affected areas or plan evacuations.

DECIDE is designed to support civil protection agencies, fire services, emergency medical teams and urban planners throughout the different stages of a disaster. Its capabilities help identify vulnerable areas before a disaster occurs, support emergency operations as events unfold, and assess damage to infrastructure and natural environments in the aftermath.
