Federated infraestructure of experimentation for Industry 4.0 applications
B-INDUSTRY5G
Duration:
01.03.2021 - 31.12.2022
Main objectives of the project
The overall objective of the project is to enable a world-leading 5G technology platform, the BINDUSTRY5G platform, which is open and interactive and based on the coordination of a set of advanced 5G laboratories provided by technology centres and universities in the RVCTI, and on the incorporation of research into 5G technologies to be carried out in the project into this platform, in order to make the 5G capabilities necessary to meet the challenges of Industry 4.0 in the coming decade with the maximum guarantees available to different players in the Basque R&D&I and industrial ecosystem, such as RVCTI agents, universities and the advanced manufacturing sector in the Basque Country, especially SMEs.
Scientific and technological focus
The project is fully aligned with one of the strategic priorities of the EUSKADI 2030 PCTI (Basque Country Science, Technology and Innovation Plan), namely Smart Industry, and its scientific research focuses on one of the main digital or virtual technologies in the plan's Base Technology Map: the Internet of Things and 5G technologies.
The project represents a great opportunity to develop adaptations of the set of vehicular technologies that are the subject of research in this project, namely 5G, IoT, cloud/edge/fog computing, ML and localisation, and tools for integrating these and other auxiliary technologies with the overall aim of implementing the BINDUSTRY5G platform as a centre for experimentation and validation of solutions for Industry 4.0. This is because the above-mentioned technologies, although constantly evolving, are individually at a high level of maturity. However, their level of suitability and integration with other technologies for the development of smart industry solutions is low-medium (TRL3/4).
Scientific and Technological Transfer Potential and Projected Socio-Economic Impact
The BINDUSTRY5G platform will take the form of an experimental node of the BDIH, which will enable agents in the Basque Country who are involved in the research and industrialisation of advanced smart industry solutions to experiment and investigate, in short, to train at the highest level with related technologies, i.e. 5G, IoT, cloud/edge/fog computing, ML and localisation.
