eSTATION: Digital Twin for Electromobility and Fleet Management

NUUK Mobility

NUUK Mobility aimed to electrify its fleets by optimizing vehicles and charging infrastructure, and Vicomtech responded by developing a Digital Twin that replicates services, predicts demand, and optimizes fleet operations in real time.

eSTATION: Digital Twin for Electromobility and Fleet Management

The Challenge

NUUK Mobility is a company dedicated to managing fleets of 2-, 3- and 4-wheel vehicles and to the design and commercialization of light electric vehicles. As part of its commitment to promoting fleet electrification, the company needed a solution capable of intelligently sizing and locating both vehicles and charging infrastructures. The challenge was to understand the real behaviour of demand, optimize operations, and enable efficient planning across different urban scenarios.

The Proposed Solution

Vicomtech responded by developing a Digital Twin that virtually replicates NUUK’s vehicle fleet services in different locations. The solution was built using proprietary technologies and expertise, combining spatio-temporal big data analytics with Mobilib, Vicomtech’s mobility software asset.

The project, named eSTATION, included the creation of a datalake, as well as simulation, prediction, and multi-objective optimization algorithms. The system was enriched with socioeconomic and cartographic data from external sources, generating an accurate geospatial representation that integrates operational metrics from each delivery service.

The technical outcome materialized in a web application designed for optimal fleet sizing, using modules for predicting demand indicators and defining tailored charging strategies. Vicomtech’s expertise was key to delivering a rigorous, robust solution aligned with the client’s needs.

The Result

The project resulted in an innovative artificial intelligence (AI)-based tool that supports decision-making and optimizes urban electromobility. Thanks to the Digital Twin, NUUK Mobility can offer its clients real-time analysis of usage patterns, energy consumption, and operational performance, generating key insights for strategic decisions.

The tool provides a deeper understanding of how fleet energy management influences the business efficiency of NUUK’s clients and opens the door to identifying new opportunities for products, services, and systems. Altogether, it contributes to advancing towards more sustainable and efficient mobility models.

The collaboration between NUUK and Vicomtech has been particularly enriching, built on solid, results-oriented cooperation. This project lays a strong foundation for future developments and reflects Vicomtech’s commitment to applied innovation and the digital transformation of mobility and logistics models.
