Vicomtech has been selected as one of the five winning teams in Challenge 3 of the European AI Challenge Competition, promoted by the AI-BOOST initiative.
Its proposal, LUSYN (Lung Cancer Synthetic Data Generation), has successfully completed the programme's first stage (Spark Phase) and will now move on to the next phase, during which the solution will be developed and validated. On 15 October, Vicomtech attended the official launch event for this new stage, known as the Advance Phase.
LUSYN addresses one of the main challenges of applying artificial intelligence to healthcare: the lack of clinical data needed to develop reliable models. In areas such as cancer research, these limitations can make it difficult to train AI systems and reduce their ability to accurately represent the diversity of patients.
To address this challenge, Vicomtech will work with EUCAIM (European Federation for Cancer Images) to develop a solution capable of generating realistic synthetic data on lung cancer patients. This artificial data will complement existing information, fill gaps in datasets and help develop more reliable AI models, supporting advances in cancer research.
Over the next five months, the Vicomtech team will focus on developing and validating the proposal. The process will culminate in a live demonstration in Brussels, scheduled for February 2027, where the final prototypes will be evaluated.
This selection reinforces Vicomtech's commitment to innovation and the development of AI solutions for healthcare, with the aim of overcoming technological barriers and contributing to higher-quality medical research.
