Business Continuity Planning for Critical Infrastructures

BUCOPCI is a project co-funded by the European Commission in the framework of the “Prevention, Preparedness and Consequence Management of Terrorism and other Security-related Risk Programme”. BUCOPCI will address Business Continuity Planning of Critical Infrastructure Operators and will define best practices for business continuity and security plans. The project scope is limited to Information Technology Systems. These guidelines will be defined from and for end-users and will be validated following European-approved validation methodologies.

The project consists of three phases. During the first phase the current standards (BS 25999, BS 25777, ISO/PAS 22399:2007 and the future ISO 27031 amongst others), best practices and innovative approaches relevant for the objectives of the project are analyzed.

Based on the outcome of the first phase the guidelines for developing Business Continuity Planning and Operator Security Plan will be developed during the second phase. The guidelines will be validated during the third phase, using a certain number of reference scenarios and applying recognized European-approved validation methodologies.

The three phases are complemented with three lines of transversal activities. The first transversal thread is project management, managing the progress and ensuring the results are of high quality. The second transversal line is an economic assessment of the implications of the presented guidelines. The third transversal line is dissemination; there will be continuous dissemination activities. These activities are aimed at exchanging and disseminating information with key stakeholders, including Critical Infrastructure Operators, Critical Infrastructure Protection Providers, National and International Standardisation bodies and Industry in general.

This project has received 50.658,80 EUR funding from the European Commission.
