Guidance and Tourist Information Platform
The POINT project aims an evolution in the way to react with tourists, by providing services with different levels of personalization, available anywhere in the premises where the business takes place and sensitive to the environment in which they are. This way the tourist will share the tourist establishment’s services. POINT will develop an integral service platform that will facilitate and exploit the possibilities of fairgrounds, and they will be personalized according to the users’ preferences by using the innovative Web 2.0, mobile and robotic technologies. A new concept dealt with in this project is to move social nets and collaborative environments to tourist premises, creating this way “Museo 2.0” where tourists will develop Group Intelligence and will be able to connect the offered tourist package with their mobile phones, the museum’s multimedia infrastructure, their interaction with a robot at the premises and the access to the establishment’s webpage.
Within this project the development of a functional robotic services platform, capable of interacting with the users with different communication channels, will held an important place.
As a complement to the services offered within the premises, there will be a series of accessible utilities via mobile phones that will permit the tourist to personalize at distance the required services, as well as to have real-time digital information and to facilitate a “Universal Access” to the contents of the museum for groups with functional diversity.
The success of this project lies, mainly, on the ease with which users can adapt the information they need to their profile, obtain a multimedia exposition of different scenarios in an attractive way and useful and, in general, create an environment in which every available device is adapted to the needs, preferences and communicating ways of the user –and not the other way around.
As a result of the project, a service platform will be implemented in a public museum, where a wide range of services will be offered in different scenarios so that tourists, either accessing at a distance (from home) or within the premises, can enjoy the innovative conversational interfaces and the advanced graphic designs, as well as the direct communication with the robotic platform and, in overall, with any available multimedia content from their mobile terminals. The tourist is not regarded as a passive observer in this project, but his participation in the resources the museum offers is encouraged, so that the multimedia content of the same increases by using the tourist’s own distribution material.
Regarding the user’s active participation, POINT tries to create at the same time an eLearning tool based on Web 2.0, so that the actual infrastructure of museums are widened. In this sense, this tool will focus on the construction of knowledge among the individuals that form the museum’s community: visitors and professionals.
What is followed this way is that the relationship of the visitor with the museum is not only limited to the visiting time, but that it (the relationship) begins beforehand with an interest-contact before making the visit and that this relationship perpetuates after it. So a knowledge community around the museum would be created, where every tourist could have at his disposal the information and multimedia contents displayed by previous users.
