Predictive models and visual analytics for cardiology and oncology

MANAVICO

Duration:

01.05.2017 - 30.09.2018

The Manavico project proposes research into predictive modeling technologies and visual analytics, enabling the acquisition of new knowledge through the exploitation of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and the intuitive visualization of results for improved information management. Manavico aims to provide a system for predicting decompensation in cardiology patients and predictive diagnostic models for oncology, both based on EHR data and supported by visual analytics.

To measure the validity of the developments, a prototype will be developed. Although it will not currently be integrated with a real HIS (Healthcare Information System), it will be integrated through simulated interfaces, allowing for validation of its functionality with clinical professionals.

To achieve this strategic objective, Manavico sets the following functional objectives:

• Develop knowledge, technology, and tools that facilitate the generation of new knowledge from the extraction of clinical data from EHRs. Predictive models, largely based on data mining and visual analytics technologies, are booming in many diverse fields. The impact of these technologies in areas such as biomedicine and engineering is significant, resulting in their rapid adoption. This project focuses on developing knowledge in advanced data analytics within one of the RIS3 sectors: healthcare, and specifically in a field with a major social and economic impact, such as clinical intelligence (CI).

• Define, experiment with, and validate the developed technology, verifying its ability to meet the needs of medical professionals and assessing its impact on daily clinical practice.
