Sustainable mobility is one of the greatest challenges currently facing the city of Donostia / San Sebastián. In the European Union, the transport sector accounts for 23% of energy-related CO₂ emissions, while in the Basque Autonomous Community this figure rises to 43%, with 96.1% corresponding to road transport. In this context, meeting the objectives set by the Paris Agreement will require halving transport-related emissions by 2050.
The San Sebastián Mobility Department is therefore working towards a more sustainable model of mobility, focusing on key goals such as traffic decongestion and the deployment of new technologies that enable mobility management based on advanced and intelligent data analysis.
Within the European Mobility Week 2025, Vicomtech strengthens its commitment to urban mobility research through the DonostiaMOB project, a technological initiative that seeks to make travel around the city safer, more efficient and more accessible.
Promoted by the European Commission, the European Mobility Week is a space for reflection and action to move towards more liveable and sustainable urban environments. In this context, projects such as DonostiaMOB, developed in collaboration with the San Sebastián City Council, show how technological innovation can contribute to these shared goals.
DonostiaMOB aims to optimise mobility management in San Sebastián through the use of data analytics, artificial intelligence and advanced visualisation. Its objectives include improving the efficiency of public transport, reducing the environmental footprint, and above all ensuring that all people, regardless of their abilities, can move comfortably and safely around the city.
The DonostiaMOB project is fully aligned with the values promoted by the European Mobility Week: sustainability, inclusion and citizen engagement. The convergence of both frameworks underlines the importance of promoting public policies and technological solutions that make mobility a universal right and a driver of social cohesion.
In this way, Vicomtech consolidates its role as a strategic partner in the development of projects that place technology at the service of society, helping cities like Donostia to advance in the transition towards a more intelligent, inclusive and sustainable mobility model.
