The technology center Vicomtech has inaugurated its new facility in the Eskuzaitzeta industrial area (Zubieta), becoming fully integrated into the strategic ecosystem of the MUBIL Hub. The opening provides the Vicomtech Foundation with state-of-the-art infrastructure, driven by the growth experienced in recent years in its applied research activities in mobility and security.
From these facilities, Vicomtech will promote projects related to connected and automated vehicles (CAV), computer vision technologies applied to security, real-time video analytics, and solutions for the protection of citizens and critical infrastructure.
The research activity carried out in Eskuzaitzeta aims to accelerate the transition towards a safer, more accessible, and more sustainable transport model. In this context, the new office will work to address the challenge of achieving zero-emission, zero-accident, and maximum-safety scenarios.
To this end, the new headquarters hosts a large research laboratory designed to meet the demands of advanced applied research and technological development.
The launch of this new headquarters has been made possible thanks to joint funding from the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and the Vicomtech Foundation, and reinforces the Basque Country’s commitment to positioning itself among international leaders in innovation and advanced technologies.
The inauguration brought together a wide range of institutional representatives and stakeholders from the business innovation ecosystem. The event was attended by Eider Mendoza, Deputy General of Gipuzkoa, and Mikel Jauregi, Minister for Industry, Energy Transition and Sustainability of the Basque Government. Also present were Jon Ander de las Fuentes, President of Vicomtech; Julián Flórez, General Director; institutional representatives; and members of the center’s executive team.
The event also included the participation of Vicomtech employees who will carry out their activity in the new facility, as well as representatives from the broader technology and business ecosystem.
The inauguration also served to highlight Vicomtech’s 25th anniversary, a milestone that was strongly present throughout the event and used to recognize the center’s trajectory since its foundation. In this context, tribute was paid to the founding members and to the different presidents who have contributed to its development over the past 25 years. The event also brought together representatives of leading companies from the sector and the region, who joined the celebration of this anniversary.
Vicomtech’s incorporation into the MUBIL Hub, alongside other leading organizations such as CIDETEC, Tecnalia, and CEIT, will further strengthen synergies within the innovation ecosystem.
Vicomtech’s arrival enhances the strength and capabilities of MUBIL, reinforcing its technological potential and consolidating the competitiveness and international positioning of Gipuzkoa and the Basque Country in the fields of sustainable, autonomous, and safe mobility, as well as intelligent security.
