Comprehensive Industrial Inspection Platform with Multispectral Vision and Advanced Robotics

The project aims to implement a new infrastructure, the ‘Comprehensive Platform for Industrial Process Control with Broad Spectrum Multispectral Technology and Advanced Robotics’, thanks to the support of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia (DFB) through its Technology Transfer Programme (Line 2).
This advanced infrastructure is designed for the inspection, classification and handling of moving components in industrial environments. It enables intelligent automation and contactless inspection.
Key integrated technologies:
- Multispectral Vision and Event Cameras: The system uses a Newtec Buteo multispectral camera and a Prophesee event camera. Multispectral vision provides detailed data on the chemical and physical properties of materials that are not visible in the conventional optical spectrum. Event cameras, meanwhile, detect components at high speed, ensuring accurate positioning and reducing processing time.
- Advanced Cartesian Robotics: A high-speed IAI Cartesian robot is responsible for physical manipulation, acting in real time to remove or sort parts on a conveyor belt.
Potential applications:
The system is suitable for prototyping and testing in-line inspection solutions, being of particular interest to industrial companies in sectors such as: Advanced manufacturing, Food, Pharmaceuticals, Recycling, Packaging
This infrastructure is a modular and flexible environment that will significantly boost our R&D and technology transfer capabilities, which is the basis of our role in this project. Specifically, the platform will be used for the development and validation of advanced computer vision algorithms (multispectral, hyperspectral, event-based) under controlled conditions that simulate the industrial environment. In addition, it will improve the prototyping and testing of in-line inspection solutions and facilitate the integration and evaluation of robotic and automation systems in handling and physical response tasks. It will enable us to validate technological solutions in pre-industrial phases and create new internal capabilities.
